Project Update #1

The Friends are having a Book Sale on Wednesday, November 17 from 1-4 pm, with loads of great books, movies, puzzles, and games looking for a new home. We are very thankful to have received a large book donation with at least 650 books for kids, and even more for adults. The tables and shelves are packed full of goodies just in time for the holiday season. Come and pick out your favorites!

As most of you have experienced in life, big goals can take months or even years to complete. There are phases of dreaming and hoping; planning and preparing; adjusting and trying again; and then, hopefully, success! At the library we have quite a few long-range plans and projects to increase library accessibility in varying stages on their way to completion. Currently, three projects are nearing a significant stage of development that you might want to be aware of and I will share one with you each week of November as I think on the many things I’m thankful for this month.

First up on our project list: Microfilm Digitization. Our microfilm collection of historical Green Lake area newspapers and other important documents has been sent off to be scanned and uploaded to be hosted on our website in fully searchable PDF format. This means your local Green Lake history is one step closer to you and can be accessed from any computer or device. The microfilm digitization project has been made possible by Tom Gnewuch Memorial Funds. We couldn’t think of a better way to honor the man who authored Green Lake Memories and Green Lake Memories II. Both books are available for checkout at the library, and Green Lake Memories II is currently available for sale at the front desk.

Thank you for reading and being interested in library happenings. Stay tuned for #2 next week!
