Newspaper Column for August 22, 2019

We’re already in the back to school time of year. Can you believe it? If you’ve got little ones getting ready for school this year, we have some fun books that may help ease their transition like The Pigeon HAS to Go to School” by Mo Willems and The King of Kindergarten by Derrick Barnes. Or for middle schoolers, we have The 47 People You'll Meet in Middle School by Kristin Mary Mahoney and the ever fun and brand new Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls by Dav Pilkey. If those don’t strike your fancy, we have a lot of other new items coming in the door every day.

A couple of other things happening at the library include another Acoustic Jam session from 1-3:30 pm on Friday August, 23 and all are welcome to attend. Then on August 27 we have two programs from Ann Moser from the Wisconsin Water Library. The first program called "Let's Go Fishing for Some Great, Great, Lakes Fish!" starts at 3 pm and is geared towards kids (but adults will enjoy it, too). Did you know the Great Lakes contain 20% of the world’s fresh water and 35,000 islands? But what swims underwater is what delights and excites us. We’ll explore the fish that live in Lake Michigan and Lake Superior and what makes them special. Then after a little break, Anne will be at it again at 6:30 pm with a program on Plastics in the Great Lakes. She will address the global problem of pollution and how it’s affecting our local lakes along with some tips on how to reduce and prevent unwanted items getting into our water systems.
