March 14th Newspaper Column

Books and food and fundraising highlight this week’s events at the Caestecker. Today (Thursday, March 14) is especially packed full of programs!

We get things started with guest Lori Boushele from Advocap coming to Thursday Morning Conversations. Join us for coffee and donuts and talk about volunteer opportunities at 10:00.

At 1:00 we welcome Green Lake County Nurse Educator Melanie Simpkins for a discussion on diabetes prevention. This kicks off a series of presentations by Melanie aiming to get us all “Towards a Healthier You.” Upcoming sessions will cover healthy bones and opioid misuse prevention.

We have a screening of “Green Book” at 1:30 for those whose blood sugar is well under control. And fish people will want to be sure to come to the library at 6:30 to hear Aaron O’Connell of the Wisconsin DNR talk about lake sturgeon. We have a (quilted fabric) mascot, Stella the Sturgeon, on display ahead of Aaron’s program, thanks to Kim Bates.

Saturday brings a book sale from 8-1:00. We have received many wonderful donations this year, and it’s time to share them with you. Books, movies, puzzles, audio – we have something for everyone at very good prices.

Pizza lovers, we hope you will come out to Vines and Rushes on Monday evening, as we are their featured Cause of the Mondays. Order a wood fired pizza with an array of toppings, add a side salad, a glass of wine or beer or root beer (my favorite – they have Sprecher root beer on tap!) and 25% of food sales will come to the library to support our programs. This fundraiser runs 4-8:00 p.m. and is a delicious way to support both a great local business and the library!

Next week’s Road to the Oscars film is “The Favourite.” We hope you stop in either Tuesday at 6:30 or next Thursday at 1:30 and see if it becomes a favorite of yours.
