January 10th Newspaper Column

Wow, were there a lot of books released on Tuesday! Stop in or visit the library website at www.greenlakelibrary.org to see what we purchased and get your name in to read one or a dozen.

We have another Thursday Morning Conversation scheduled this week – no particular topic this time, just a chance to meet and converse with your neighbors over a cup of coffee. Conversations begin at 10:00.

Saturday morning brings a couple of special events to the library. The Friends are having a Winter Book Sale from 8:00-1:00. They have received a lot of terrific donations over the past few weeks, and can’t wait to share them with you. And at 10:00 all you movie buffs will want to experience “The Road (Back) to the Oscars” with timeless Hollywood reporter Lloyd Ulysses Sell. Lloyd will fill us in on the stars and scandals that have made the Academy Awards special over the years. He has some amazing stories to tell.

Tuesday evening brings an extra special opportunity to Green Lake. Filmmaker Craig Dudnick has created a documentary of the Chicago Freedom Movement – a group organized in the 1960s to fight for civil rights. Mr. Dudnick will be here Tuesday evening to screen “Alice’s Ordinary People” and talk about the making of the film. It’s a fitting tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on what would have been his 90th birthday.

Tuesday also marks the final day of Rooster Round Up for the library at CrossRoads Market. When you shop, please consider rounding up your purchase a bit to support our programs. Thanks so much.
