November 22nd Newspaper Column

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We are so grateful for the many ways you support the library every day.

We are closed today (Thanksgiving Day) to allow staff time to stuff themselves with tasty food, watch the Macy’s parade, enjoy time with family and friends, and reflect on our many blessings. Tomorrow, though, we’re here at 9:00 for all your post-feasting needs. And Saturday morning (November 24) we have a special treat for you – a concert by Gaelic harpist Jeff Pockat. We are lucky to have Jeff here for a seasonal concert – most years he is busy being Santa at various Fox Valley establishments. Ahhh, a harp concert in front of the fireplace sounds just about perfect. Jeff’s concert begins at 10:00.

And then begins the headlong rush to Christmas. Those of you who like to bake Christmas cookies are invited to make some for the Friends Cookie Sale, scheduled for December 1st. Cookies (three dozen or so, if you can) should be dropped off by 12:00 noon on Friday November 30th.  One pound assortments of baked holiday goodness will be available for purchase on Saturday the first. There is a book sale and our annual Breakfast with Santa also happening that morning, but I will devote next week’s column to those auspicious events.

Thanks again and again and again.
