February 22nd Newspaper Column

We have everything from soup to nuts for you at the library this weekend!

Saturday, February 24 from 11-1:00 brings our soup fundraiser, and we are so excited! Tickets are $10 each (or $15 for a VIP ticket), available in advance or at the door, and will get you your choice of soup, roll, drink, and dessert. The library knitting group will have items available for sale during the luncheon. All proceeds will go toward bringing more programs to the community right here at the library. Many, many thanks to Chops, CrossRoads Market, Heidel House, J’s BBQ, Little Corporal, Mr. and Mrs. P’s, Renard’s Bakeshop, and Sassafras for their generous donations to the cause. Please visit these fine local folks and share our appreciation.

That pretty well covers the soup. Sunday afternoon we tackle the nuts. Hickory nuts, to be exact. Those tasty but oh-so-hard to get at morsels of goodness. Lucky for us, Sarah Naparalla of the Wisconsin Hickory Association will share tips and techniques for hickory nut cracking from 2-3:30. Sarah will have nuts and cracking implements on hand, or you can bring your own hickory nuts.

We’re finally seeing some of the major nominated films being released on DVD, right before the Academy Awards. Tuesday night, February 27, we watch Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. In the coming weeks we’ll see Lady Bird and Darkest Hour. Perhaps more, if interest holds. Movie screenings always begin at 6:30 and we are happy once again to share popcorn provided by Guth’s. So many folks helping us these days!

We finally have the 1040A federal tax forms and instructions, so we have received everything we were expecting from the IRS. We are happy to help you locate additional forms and instructions online, whether from the IRS or the state.
