October 26 Newspaper Column

Our World War One series gets started in earnest this week. We have a soldier’s uniform and kit on loan from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in our front display case through November 6. Tonight we screen the first film in our series – Steven Spielberg’s War Horse – at 6:30. And we have an additional three films and six programs coming next month, looking at everything from music to air power, the home front to the front lines. Our complete schedule is now on the library website www.greenlakelibrary.org under Upcoming Events.

We haven’t forgotten Halloween, though. Trick or treating officially happens twice at the library. Sunday afternoon, October 29, our volunteers would love to see youngsters in costume. And then on the 31st the downtown businesses are handing out treats from 3-5:00 p.m. Twice as sweet!

In between trick-or-treating opportunities, we have a different sort of sweetie at the library. Tia, our READ therapy dog, is back on Mondays after school to listen to children read her stories. Reading to Tia is a low-stress, tail wagging way to practice reading aloud for youngsters who may need a little confidence boost in that department. She’s non-judgmental, always happy to see the kids, and an absolute delight.

All this, plus books and movies! We hope you stop in soon.
