We wrap up our series on World War I with a story of grace and peace in the midst of bloody conflict. Wisconsin author Rochelle Pennington presents the story of the World War One Christmas Miracle in the soldiers' own words.
In the week leading up to Christmas, 1914, candlelit tress began appearing along the German trenches on the Western Front. French and British soldiers could hear "Stille Nacht" across No Man's Land. The Allies reciprocated with carols of their own. Gradually, up and down hundreds of miles of trenches, an unofficial Christmas truce broke out.
