And the lower level renovations have begun!

Thanks to Alyssa’s article in last week’s paper, readers know that the renovations include a larger program/meeting room, restrooms, and an upgrade to the book sale area. The Caestecker Library Foundation is paying for the bulk of the renovations, for which we are immensely grateful. The Friends of the Library and the Library Board have also contributed funds for the project, so that once it is complete we will have a screen and projector and hearing loop built in. What we need is furniture – and that’s where (we are hoping) you come in.

Today we are kicking off a fundraising campaign to furnish the new lower level meeting room. Save a Seat For Me! hopes to raise $25,000 by the end of the year to fill up the new room with 90 chairs and 25 tables. Can you help us reach our goal? Your cash or check donation to the Caestecker Public Library is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. You can find out more at Thursday Morning Conversations this week, because I will be talking all things library at 10:00 over coffee and donuts.

Next week is National Friends of Libraries Week, and as you know we love our Friends. Membership in this vital organization is only $5/year or $50 for a lifetime membership. The Friends purchase all the magazines and newspapers, deliver library books and DVDs to homebound patrons, volunteer to run the desk every Sunday afternoon, underwrite the summer reading program, and even sponsor two scholarships at Green Lake High School. This year they have also funded some of the unique items we are checking out to patrons – disc golf sets and another outdoor adventure backpack. And they have allowed us to expand our STEM-related after school programs by purchasing our littleBits sets. They are good friends indeed.

As part of the celebration, the Friends annual meeting and luncheon is Wednesday, October 19th, at 680 North. Call the library at 294-3572 to reserve your spot by this Friday. Then on Thursday the 20th, friends President Maggie Schultz will be our guest at Thursday Morning Conversations!
