February 12th Newspaper Column

February is Library Lovers Month, and this year we’ve decided to have a little fun with it. We received a generous donation of Beanie Babies last year, and are offering them for adoption through Saturday. The fuzzy little cuties are on a display table in the front of the library. We are asking for a donation in lieu of a set adoption fee, with proceeds going towards the care of our library turtles Myrtle and Frankie.

If small stuffed animals just aren’t your thing, how about going on a Blind Date With a Book? Late last week a couple of library staff members selected an array of books and wrote appropriate “personal ads” for each of them. The books are gift-wrapped with the “ad” taped to the front. Take a chance on finding a book you’ll fall in love with and check out one of our Blind Date books this week!

There’s a lot to love at the Friends Winter Book Sale this Saturday from 8:00-4:00. Books (of course) for readers of all ages and interests, but also movies, books on CD, puzzles, and more.  You’re sure to find something to warm your heart or the heart of someone you hold dear.

And because gardening is near and dear to our hearts, we’re having our first Seed Library event of 2015 this Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Join Master Gardener and Seed Library co-founder KC Simmers for ideas on when and techniques for how to start your garden seeds. Bring seeds to swap, questions to ask, knowledge to share. Or just bring yourself and check out what the Seed Library has to offer. It’s time to Get Growing, Green Lake!
