January 16th Newspaper Column

The Golden Globes were last weekend, Academy Award nominations were announced this morning, and in Green Lake that means one thing – it’s time for our Road to the Oscars Film Series! Every Tuesday evening from January 21 through the awards ceremony (March 2nd this year) we will screen one of the nominated films at 6:30. Depending on availability of the films on DVD and audience interest we may add in some Thursday screenings and/or continue to show films through March. There were a lot of good movies in 2013 – I hope you will join us in watching some of the best. Check the website for details at www.greenlakelibrary.org

Linda may have movies on the brain but there are lots of other cool things happening at the library. The Dartford Historical Society and the library’s own Margie Roti Roti continue a series of genealogy workshops on Monday afternoon, January 20th, on the information available in land records. There are paintings on display in the lobby and in the meeting room. The knitting group meets every Monday morning at 10:00 and welcomes new members of all experience levels (they are terrific teachers and problem solvers). We have story time for preschoolers on Thursday mornings at 10:00 and LEGO club for young builders Thursday afternoons at 3:30. New books and movies come in every week to keep us informed and entertained during these cold days and nights. And we have special programs in the works every month of the year. Stay tuned!
