November 9th Newspaper Column

More WWI events in the coming days, with a book signing and an artists’ reception also at hand for your enjoyment. Here are the details.

Tonight (Thursday, November 9) we’re screening A Farewell to Arms from 1932. Starring Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes, this Best Picture nominee is based on Ernest Hemingway’s famous novel. Wartime love – so many stories there, and this is one of the best. Show time is 6:30.

Why is the Library Collecting Shoes?

Well, the short answer is because we were asked. The fine folks behind the upcoming Freeland Film Festival (June of 2018, right here in downtown Green Lake) are collecting gently used shoes and work boots that will be given to people in need of decent footwear. If there are a pair (or three) taking up space in your home, too good to toss out, please consider bringing them in to the library on your next visit. They can be sneakers or sandals, work boots or "nice shoes for work" for kids or grownups. We will have a collection box in the library lobby until Thanksgiving.
