We have all been busy as bees getting new books covered and setting up programs and baking treats for the programs and going to budget meetings and…
Whew! Time to step back a moment and count our blessings.
We have hired a new library custodian, Norm Sonderman, who is getting the library back in tip-top shape while keeping us laughing. Last week we received an unexpected monetary donation to the library and a couple of unexpected (and quite yummy) edible treats for the staff from grateful patrons. We get hugs and high fives from our smallest users quite often, which always leaves us smiling. The sigh of relief or yelp of excitement or smile of pleasure we get when we connect a reader with just the right book? Priceless. Add up all the interactions we have with folks every week and it’s easy to see that we have some of the best jobs in town. And we are grateful.
There are all sorts of literary events happening in Wisconsin these days, including right here in Green Lake. This weekend the Wisconsin Book Festival takes place at various locations around Madison and the Chippewa Valley Book Festival is going strong in Eau Claire. Last weekend was the Children’s Book Festival in Sheboygan. And coming in November, Austen Fest arrives at the Caestecker Public Library!
Remember Bard Fest last November? We had a lot of fun visiting some of Shakespeare’s works. This time around we will be celebrating Jane Austen with film screenings, a lecture, a heritage dance demonstration, tea, and a visit from the author herself. More details to come, but you can get a sneak peek at the schedule by visiting the events page on www.greenlakelibrary.org
