January 17th Newspaper Column

Well, that just didn’t work out the way we hoped, did it?

Now that we all have our weekends free of football (darn, I really thought the Packers had a shot), what will you do with your time? The library is here with some suggestions.

After a quiet month of December the publishing houses are hitting January with a boatload of interesting new releases. Come in and check out some of the terrific new titles featured on our display table. Whether your taste runs to thrillers, do-it-yourself home improvement, historical fiction, or anything in-between, we have new books for you to enjoy. There are a lot of new children’s and teen titles, too, so everyone can find something to love.

We kick off our annual Road to the Oscars film series on Tuesday evening, January 22nd with Beasts of the Southern Wild. It’s nominated for four Academy Awards, including some of the biggies – Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress – at age nine she’s the youngest ever nominated! Should be fantastic. I hope to see you at one or more of the film screenings as we count down to the awards ceremony on February 24th.
