Our wonderful Friends group has taken on the HUGE task of helping the library raise money to put a new metal roof on the building.
Why a new metal roof? Well, over the years we’ve had some issues with water leaking in at various places. Winter visitors are quite familiar with the massive icicles that form on both sides of the building. And more than a few of you have been dripped on by our leaky gutters over the entrance. A new roof and guttering system will solve all of those issues. And since we want to do what’s best for the library over the long term, a metal roof with its 50+ year guarantee is the best use of our funds.
It will take us a while to raise that money. In the meanwhile you will notice other things being done to the library building and grounds to help solve those water issues. This week we’re having some landscape remediation done along the west wall to help assure that water drains away from the building. This winter we will have electrical wires running along the guttering to help prevent icicle buildup. And later this fall we’re hoping to have the flashing repaired on several roof areas to help prevent water finding its way in. We have a terrific resource in this building (and all the materials and programming that happens inside). We want to keep it in the best condition we possibly can.
