Green Lake County now has a bird monitoring kit available for groups to check out from the Caestecker Public Library. Developed by the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology and the Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative the kit contains 15 pairs of binoculars, a spotting scope and tripod, five copies of Birds of North America field guide by Kenn Kaufman, an educator’s guide with suggested activities, and other bird identification literature. The bird monitoring kit is suitable for use by scouts, 4-H, school, and adult groups, and will check out for up to one week.
Got seeds? The library does, and we’d like to get them to you. From organic arugula to Moon and Stars watermelon, the Green Lake Seed Library has heirloom and open pollinated vegetable, fruit, flower, and herb seeds for you to check out, grow, enjoy, and save some seed from for the next growing season. This is the Seed Library’s fourth year of helping Green Lake area residents get to know and grow their own food. Stop in and make your selections from our list today.

We have lots of things to warm your heart as we head towards Valentine’s Day. (February is Library Lovers Month, after all.) You adventurous souls may want to go on a blind date with a book. We have an array of gift-wrapped titles on display near the front of the library, each with a brief but enticing blurb attached. Pick one that intrigues, bring it to the checkout desk, and take your new book love home. You can even fill out the enclosed form to tell us how your “date” went – there’s a sweet treat available to one lucky participant.
