Stress Site

I thought the perfect site to link to for my first day at my new job was Mind Your Stress, a blog with many ideas of how to manage stress levels. :) I had forgotten the butterflies in the tummy feeling, the tingle in the hands, and the excitement of starting a new job. At this point it is all promise and no problems. Wish me luck!

RSS Today

MicroPersuasion has a great post on 35 Ways You Can Use RSS Today. They range from movie reviews to new software releases to tee times.

Because RSS is going to be the future (and the present) of the Internet, it is important that librarians and others understand the power of syndication and delivery. This list of 35 items gives a real sense of what is possible today.

Moving

My family and I are moving to our new community this weekend, so blogging will be non-existent for several days, maybe even a week. When I return I hope to have plenty of cool websites to share.

Kakuro

Here is something new to fill up your weekend time.  Kakuro is like the very popular Sudoku in that it uses numbers and like crosswords in that each grid has filled and empty cells.  Insert numbers from 1-9 in the cells that total the same number as the clue for the line.  It seems to be just as addictive as Sudoku.  There go some more hours...

Byoms

OK, this is a very cool concept.  Byoms are searches for instant messaging.  So you load in search handles onto your AOL Instant Messenger contact list and conduct searches from right in your AIM!  Sweet!  They have premade byoms for Wikipedia, WebMD, IMDB, and Ticketmaster or you can create your own for any site you wish and share them with others.

Remember When

Remember When is a digital project from the Milwaukee Public Library.  It offers historic photographs accompanied by a brief description.  The librarians have also assigned subject headings to the photos.

NOW for Librarians

The most recent edition of the PBS show NOW featured two segments of interest to librarians.  One is a feature on Net Neutrality and the second is an interview with George Christian, the librarian who had a gag order placed on him for refusing to comply with a Patriot Act demand for records.  The site offers information on Christian and his battle against the gag order, video coverage of the ACLU's press conference after the gag order was lifted, a poll on net neutrality, and a discussion area on the Patriot Act.  NOW also has a new podcast feature where you can listen to the program.

I'M Instant Media is a downloadable program that lets you watch TV free on your computer.  Subscribe to your favorite programs from their list and they will be updated automatically.  Click to watch them.  The site has a nice collection of programs, but don't expect to find blockbuster movies or huge-name TV shows.  This is more about video podcasts such as Newshour, the Today Show, MTV News, CNN News, and NBC Nightly News.

Webride

Webride offers an interesting service that I haven't seen elsewhere. They allow website authors and others to create discussions online about specific websites. As an author, you can attach discussions right to your site, but even if you don't own the website, you are welcome to create a discussion about it on the Webride site. The website opens to a list of the most popular current discussions, but you can also browse by the newest discussions, by tag or by domain.

Dead Laptop

Yikes! Not only am I moving in less than two weeks and changing jobs, but my laptop has finally decided to give up the ghost and need to be wiped. Since it is a work laptop, I have decided to use an old laptop and just have the other configured for the interim director. So bear with me while I get used to the new old laptop and get all my bookmarks functioning again.
