I reserved a local VFW, which came to $250 which includes the use of their kitchen facilities. We are making our own food and buying bulk 2x2 inch cheesecake squares instead of cake. We got a DJ for $600 so the reception itself ends up costing lss than $1000. We are decorating ourselves, not getting professional flowers, and each having ONE attendant who both agreed to pay for their own stuff. I havent gotten my dress yet but am hoping to spend under $500. Im making my own ring pillow and flower girl basket (much more fun that way) My uncle is a photographer so thats covered. I got a porcelain guestbook and pen set that is absolutley gorgeous off of Ebay for $25. ALWAYS CHECK EBAY!!!! So this will end up costing my parents and my fiance's parents right around $2000 and will still be everything I've ever imagined!

I helped my finance's mother with her daughter's wedding. To save money on the reception, we decorated it ourselves. Buy fake flowers at AC Moore and put them together yourself. Dress up railings with netting and christmas lights. Put the christmas lights under the netting so they look less cheap. Wanna make it chepaer... find a family member who owns a restaurant... just got a new apartment, before you put furniture in it, have the reception there... having a summer wedding, go to a local park with pavilions and decorate it and bbq or cater... cosco for veggie plates and finger sandwiches...

Ive been engaged for a couple of months now. From what Ive seen there are lots of ways to make your special day pretty cheap. For the reception, your centerpeices can be simple floating candles in a glass bowl, or you can even opt for buying glass vases at the dollar, adding glass stones to the bottom, and then add water and flowers for a nice look. shop around for flowers, and you can always make your cake yourself. There is a lot you can make yourself for cheap. I know when my aunt got married she left disposable cameras on the table so that she got pictures from every table's perspective of the wedding...I wish you guys luck!

Hey, I have a great tip for cheap catering!
For about 14$ per person you can have a chef (all dressed up) serve your guest an entree of roasted sweet garlic chicken, an array of mixed veggies and spice rubbed potatoes. Not to mention the appetizers.
And, did I mention the beautiful China the food is served on! All this from guess where.......
BOSTON MARKET
Who woulda thought? Hope this helps!

My husband-to-be and I have very little money to spend, as he works infrequently doesn't want me hooking anymore (I promised no Johns would be visiting once he asked me to marry him). I have my heart set on a beautiful white wedding dress, where can I get something cheap?
Posted by: Sweet Jane | August 24, 2005 6:47 PM
I managed to have a really cheap wedding. My fiancee and I looked up in the local papers where a nice church ceremony was going on, and called around to make sure that the ceremony was going on with a church where the bride and groom weren't regular members of the congregation. Then we showed up a half-hour before the ceremony, killed the bride and groom and their entourage, then took their place in their clothes (tricky thing to remember here: use ceramic knives and make sure to icepick at the brainstem, that way the suit and dress aren't ruined for use). The bridal gown was a little tight, but otherwise it got us a completely free ceremony and we were outta there before any of the families had the balls to get up and ask what was going on. Anybody got any red-eye tickets to Honolulu? Want a ride to the airport?

Please help me! My wedding is in one week and I got a black eye accidently when I fell in the shower. This on top of our trailer burning down a month ago and I'm just feelin bad omens. We already have $180 invested in icing, cake mix, and panty hose and my father in law says we can stay with him till we get on our feet, but that's just because he wants me too. What should I do?

TIPS!!!
We saved HUGE!!!
PHOTOGRAPHY:
We had a family member who is great at photography take our pix FOR FREE. Don't worry about not having enough great photos. At least 6 family members and friends sent us CDs with a total of about 500 digital pictures. You can get them printed at Costco or Yorkphotos.com for pretty
cheap.
CAKE:
My aunt was a baker and a cake decorator, so she made our BEAUTIFUL and oh so tasty cake as a gift. She is interested in helping other brides: $2.00 a slice, please email me for her information.
DJ
We saved huge on our wedding by NOT having a DJ, but guests were still able to make requests and the music was great. We downloaded the best wedding dance songs onto our laptop and hooked our laptop up to the sound system at our reception location. We printed out a list of the songs we had, let guests write requests down on a list and had a close friend monitor the playlist from time to time. The music was exactly what people wanted to hear, and we danced alll night!!!
THE DRESS: EBAY
I got my dress on Ebay for $210. I measured myself using a sewing measuring tape and kept my eye out for dresses I loved that had my measurements for a few months. I absolutely LOVED my dress. Don't be afraid that it won't fit... if you measure everything and check against the measurements posted, you will be fine!!!
FOOD
We saved a ton on food by ordering focaccia sandwiches and pasta and fruit salads from Safeway. We did veggie and fruit trays and crackers with yummy dip from Costco. We just had a few neighborhood teenagers bring out the food when it got low, clean up and keep an eye on things. We paid them $10 an hour.
ALCOHOL
We bought LOTS of wine from Trader Joe's for $3.99 a bottle. We also bought a couple kegs and paid a friend of a friend ($20 an hour) to serve it). You have to get a $10 banquet license from the liquor store (in WA state), but then you're good to go. If I had it to do over again, I would have had 2 people serving.
TABLEWARE
I went to a bulk supply site online and got plastic table covers, plates and silverware for pretty cheap. http://www.bulkpartysupplies.com/solidcolorplastic.shtml#plasticcups
CONGRATULATIONS!!! AND GOOD LUCK!!!

A big tip for every bride... If your wedding is not too far off you should find out what flowers are in season and go to craft stores (hobby lobby, micheals) and get their deals on flowers and wedding items...also use the season flower for ordering with a flower company!

While planning my wedding I started a weddding auction website where people can sell the wedding leftovers, and where vendors can post their services up for engaged couples to bid on.
It's free for people to post for now. Credit is added upon registration. It's always free for brides who are browsing or bidding. www.biddingbride.com

I am planning a wedding for September of this year I haven't yet decided on a date but I am for sure that it will be one of the first two Saturday's in the month. I would like some help on a cheap but elegant wedding, nothing ghetto-fabulous. I want a church wedding and I have family to help with preparing the meal for the reception, and doing the programs, decorations and invitations, but as far as getting a wedding gown and finding the right attire for my wedding party, is where I am coming into a snag. HELP!!
Posted by: Natalie Rogers | March 8, 2007 10:58 AM
For all you budget brides like me, gowns, flowers invitations and photos seem to be the real expensive parts.
GOWNS!!
http://www.ebridalsuperstore.com/ has NAME BRAND, MADE TO ORDER wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses the cheapest ever! I got a $800 Alfred Angelo dress for just over $400 and my bridesmaids cost less than $100 a piece.
FLOWERS...or rather CRYSTALS!!
The next tip I have is about crystal bouquets. http://www.geocities.com/chris_breecher/beadbouquets.html
is a website on how to make them. The lady actually makes and sells them, so she knows what shes doing. With that and Micheal's craft store I made my 120 stem bouquet, both bridesmaids, 80 stem bouquet, and three 10 stem boutonnières for around $50 and that included a special wire twisting tool bought at Micheal's as well. I couldn't even arrange my own bouquets and boutonnières with fake flowers for that! (And crystals are the new thing so everyone is still talking about it!)
BUT if you aren't into crystals, http://www.budget-bride.com has some amazing flower arrangements at amazing prices. And you can customize them, including ribbon and flower color.
INVITES!!
With some modified instructions from http://www.budget-bride.com , we made our invitations for about $1 a piece and everyone thought they were David's Bridal Love in Navy! We got the cardstock and paper online at Paper.com for some crazy low bulk prices!
PHOTOS!!
We asked a student in college majoring in photography to do the photos for us. She did them for only the price of the processing and printing and the agreement that she could use them in her portfolio. I think we spent maybe $70. It was incredible! And as a "wedding gift" she put together a digital and table top album for us!
Anyway, my hubby and I pulled off an EXTREMELY elegant wedding for under $2,000. These were our BIG savers. If you want anymore tips on what we did, feel free to email me!
